Lisa and Royce met in medical school at the University of Iowa, but didn’t really get to know each other until late one night when they were the only two left studying at Java House, a coffee shop in Iowa City. According to Royce, Lisa fit his criteria of cute, smart, and tall so he asked her out and “she immediately fell in love with him”. So on their first date at a nearby restaurant, they stayed and talked so long that the restaurant staff kicked them out!
Fast forward to May 4th, 2014 when Royce and Lisa ran a marathon together in Tacoma, Washington. Right after the finish line, Royce proposed!
Lisa and Royce were married at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville and had their reception at the Iowa Memorial Union in Iowa City. Their wedding was full of laughter, happy tears, many fantastic dance moves, and nerves (when they couldn’t find their marriage license! Scroll down to read that story!)
Lisa’s dad said it perfectly during their “first look” when he saw his daughter as a bride for the first time, “You are a beautiful bride, but an even more beautiful person.”
Lisa and Royce’s marriage license went missing right before their ceremony. They searched all over and didn’t end up finding it, so after the ceremony, Lisa went to go look for it at the hotel with no luck. So we proceeded with photos, went to the reception, and they just decided to let the whole thing go. In the middle of the reception, they found out that the license was left at the salon that morning so at about 10pm last night, the priest came to the reception, everyone signed the license, and they were OFFICIALLY MARRIED! This is their first real kiss as husband and wife!
And Royce was NOT going to let it get lost again!
Congratulations again, Lisa & Royce! It’s been wonderful getting to know the two of you and I wish you the best with whatever the future holds for the two of you!
