Ariel and Kevin’s Rembrandt Yard Wedding

Boulder Sunrise Amphitheater Wedding
I met Ariel and Kevin at the Boulder Wedding Showcase bridal show last year. They told me they were having their ceremony at the Boulder Sunrise Amphitheater and their reception at Rembrandt Yard. They started getting ready for the day at the Boulderado Hotel, which is a historic and elegant hotel in the heart of Boulder, Colorado. It was actually the first luxury hotel in Boulder! Ariel and the girls got ready in the hotel suite, which had beautiful views of the flatirons.
Ariel and Kevin had their first look just outside the hotel, then hopped in the Rolls-Royce. Everyone shuttled up to the Sunrise Amphitheater for their ceremony at noon. Their ceremony was full of beautiful acoustic music, emotional moments, and incredible views overlooking the city of Boulder. Since they met rock climbing, they used rope for their knot tying ceremony! After the ceremony, we took some family photos, bridal party photos, and some photos of the two of them.
Rembrandt Yard Wedding Reception
Everyone reunited at Rembrandt Yard for their wedding reception in downtown Boulder. Rembrandt Yard is a unique reception space because it is also an art gallery! Their guests were able to enjoy the art gallery as they mingled during their cocktail hour. Ariel and Kevin chose a variety of rocks and succulents as their decor, to represent their shared love of rock climbing! After dinner and a few hilarious toasts, Ariel and Kevin surprised their guests with a routine for their first dance!
They continued their fun reception with lots of dancing and the German tradition of Sie Leben Hoch! If you’ve never heard of Sie Leben Hoch, it’s a tradition in Franconian wedding celebrations. The phrase, when literally translated from German is ‘can live high.’ This means the wedding guests wish the newlyweds a happy and prosperous life. Traditionally, the bartenders seat the bride and groom on two chairs. A leader (in this case, Kevin’s father) chants the wishes for a good life to the wedding couple, while the bartenders (or wedding guests) lift the bride and groom high in the air on their chairs in two toasts. The first toast is to celebrate the bride and groom because they will only be a bride and groom on their wedding day. The second toast is right at midnight to toast them at the start of their first full day of married life. Each time the couple is lifted in the air, the wedding guests sing the chorus with the leader ‘Sie leben hoch!’ (May they live well!)
