A Boho Spanish Wedding | Maria + Felix

Background on How I Know the Couple
You guys. This Spanish wedding has got to be one of my favorite weddings of all time. I am so excited to be blogging about it today! Spain is a place that is very close to my heart. I have lived there three different times and the first time I lived there was during my study abroad experience. I was paired with the most amazing and generous host family in Caceres, Spain for a semester in college. My host mom, Lola, is one of my most favorite humans on the planet. So when she asked me if I would come to Spain to photograph her daughter’s wedding, I almost immediately bought plane tickets! Jacob and I flew to Madrid, rented a car, and drove down to Miajadas where they had the wedding. Miajadas is a very small “pueblo” in Spain, where Maria grew up.
Their Boho Spanish Wedding
Maria and Felix had their wedding at Hotel La Torre and invited more than 300 guests! This Boho Spanish Wedding was far different from any other wedding I’ve photographed before. If you’ve never been to a Spanish wedding, you will be surprised to find out that things don’t end around 11pm or midnight. Spaniards like to party. Maria and Felix had their ceremony at 7pm, cocktail hour at 9pm, dinner at 10:30pm, and their first dance at 1am! They stayed up until the sun rose the next morning and they were still partying at 8am the next day!
Felix is an electrician so they had lights everywhere, light bulbs as their party favors for their guests, and their guests presented them with electrician-related gag gifts, such as a small, decorated transmission tower. Maria is a hippie, so she wanted to have dream catchers placed throughout the wedding. They were used as decorations, table numbers, and on the invites! Maria also loves working with kids; in fact, she likes to dress up as a clown, so their friends made sure there were a lot of clown-related surprises at their wedding and reception. They didn’t have a typical bridal party, but Maria walked down the aisle with NINE flower girls and ring bearers!
Their wedding was full of fun people, lots of surprises, incredible fashion, and different traditions throughout the day. Enjoy looking through some of the photos of one of my favorites weddings of 2018!
