How They Met
Hiwan Golf Club Wedding Photos — Katie was on her way to Wisconsin for a friend’s wedding. She had originally intended on going to the wedding with another college friend but those plans didn’t work out. So she asked the groom if there were any mutual friends in the area that would go to the wedding with her. Greg immediately thought of Dave, who in the recent months had just been stationed at the same base for his Shore Duty. After a few phone calls, the details were set and Katie would attend the wedding with this mystery man named Dave. Of course Greg believes all the credit belongs to him for introducing them. Katie and Dave are just glad they crossed paths.
Katie arrived on her delayed flight into the Chicago Midway Airport where she nervously exits the gates to find a tall man in a plaid shirt waiting for her by baggage claim. The time is slightly past midnight and these two strangers have a 6.5 hour drive through the night awaiting them! The only caffeine needed to keep awake was long conversations, throw back 90s music and the excitement of the unknown. Neither Dave nor Katie knew that this drive would be their first date. But it was clear after spending a weekend together at a friend’s wedding they didn’t want their time to come to an end.
The Proposal
Katie and Dave were skiing at Breckenridge, Colorado on New Year’s Eve 2015. After having to take several breaks from a bitterly cold wind storm that was passing the mountain, they decided to brave the few moments of sunshine to hit one more run. Halfway down, Dave took off his skis and waited for Katie to emerge from the moguls. She flew off the last bump and saw Dave standing there with no skis or poles. With words from the heart and our loose skis sliding down the hill, time stood still as Dave asked Katie to marry him!
Their Hiwan Golf Club Wedding
Katie and Dave got married at Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, Colorado on New Year’s Eve! Their wedding was special in so many ways. Katie’s mom made her wedding dress by hand, her uncle officiated their wedding ceremony, and Dave designed her wedding ring! After their first look, they had a beautiful candle lit ceremony in the chapel at the venue. They spent the remainder of the evening dancing the night away with their friends and family! When their reception was over, Katie and Dave exited to Auld Lang Syne at the stroke of midnight. It was the most perfect New Year’s Eve wedding!!
