Venice and Rory met on their first day of college at the University of British Columbia in beautiful Vancouver, Canada back in September 2007. They were placed in the same orientation group by chance of being in the same section of Physics 101. After orientation ended, Venice and Rory decided to check out the festivities on the Main Mall. From root beer floats to Pie Face, they spent the afternoon getting to know one another.
One of Rory’s favorite places in the world is Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Rory planned a trip with Venice to spend a weekend in Jackson in August 2015. Supposedly, they were there to visit his grandma who lived in nearby Idaho. But unbeknownst to Venice, Rory had been planning this trip for over a year… After spending the morning canoeing in the Grand Teton National Park, specifically Leigh Lake, Venice and Rory stopped on the nearby beach. Venice set up a blanket to prepare some PB & J sandwiches, while Rory wandered around the beach looking at rocks like he typically did – being the geologist that he is. Suddenly, Rory yelled, “Veni, come check out this cool rock!” Venice headed over to Rory and began to look around for “this cool rock”. But she saw nothing. She turned around and Rory was down on one knee with a diamond ring!
Venice & Rory got married on a beautiful day in August. They incorporated some fun Chinese wedding traditions including two tea ceremonies – one with each of their families. Venice wore a red dress for these which is a symbol of good luck. They got married at St. Ignacious Catholic Church and had their reception at Denver Museum of Nature and Science, which is such a cool and unique place to have a wedding or wedding reception! It is located right next to City Park, which makes for beautiful photos with the Denver cityscape in the background. Their cocktail hour was up on the rooftop, overlooking the sunset going down behind the mountains. It was a perfect day…
